I have never heard of The Go-Betweens. They were an Australian indie rock band. 16 Lovers Lane was their sixth album.
Trivia: 16 Lovers Lane was listed at No. 12 in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums. I would be interesting in listening to the other albums on that list.
I think the first song “Love Goes On” is a failure. I hate the bah da bap ba baahhhhh noise.
Things get better with the second song “Quiet Heart“. It sounds quietly romantic. I also liked the “The Devil’s Eye“, “Dive for Your Memory“, and “I’m All Right“.
The album is a bit uneven. I think the producer is at fault. He does not seem to have produced anything since this album. Perhaps the band should have produced their own music. It is unclear of their objective. I am not sure what kind of band this is and the music seems so cheesy at times, yet so good at other times. I think it would be worth listening to their earlier albums over this one. 6.9/10.
