Ministry was band that I used to listen to a lot, especially before their fifth album release ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ. The album is more commonly called Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs or Psalm 69. I remember listening to them when they were more new wave and synth-pop in the 80s. I cannot remember this album as well as I remember The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste. It was one of the best albums and concerts. The early 90s was more about industrial metal for them and for me. I think i saw their concert with Eric. We saw a few concerts together and it was so long ago. It was one of the best and worst times for me.
After listening to this album again, I still have the same feelings about it. It was not as good as their previous album. I still hate two songs on because they are a bit silly for me. I recommend skipping “Jesus Built My Hotrod” and “Psalm 69”. I have always hated those two songs. The latter does not make any sense. Psalm 69 is not in Revelation. I did look up the psalm because I was curious. I read the first four verses and I was depressed.
Save me, O God,
For the waters have threatened my life.
2 I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.
3 I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched;
My eyes fail while I wait for my God.
4 Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head;
Those who would destroy me are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies;
What I did not steal, I then have to restore.
I could relate to the writer of this psalm. I usually feel exactly that same way. It is really a terrible way to feel. I know nobody can understand it. I am just not sure if frontman Al Jourgensen and bassist Paul Barker read the psalm. I think they were using it as an innuendo.
Back to the album. I think it is really good and I would listen to it again, except for the two previously mentioned songs. 8.7/10.
